What is Battery Beggar?
A macOS menu bar app that gives your battery a personality. Instead of a silent percentage, it writes commentary at every battery level in one of five voices: Dramatic, Matter of Fact, Passive Aggressive, Anxious, or Stoic. Optional voice mode reads the lines out loud.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Battery Beggar is free on the Mac App Store: all five personality packs, notifications, voice mode, every display option. No subscription, no account, no ads. The only paid thing is the optional Percy Voice Pack, a one-time $2.99 in-app purchase.
What is the Percy Voice Pack?
Percy is Battery Beggar's mascot from TikTok. His voice pack is a sixth personality that speaks your battery reactions in his real recorded character voice, covering every threshold and charger event across 49 lines. One-time $2.99 unlock in the app. Everything else stays free.
I bought Battery Beggar when it was paid. What do I get?
Everything, plus the Percy Voice Pack free. The app detects your original purchase and unlocks Percy automatically. If it doesn't, open Settings and hit Restore Purchases, or email hello@batterybeggar.com. Early buyers funded this thing, so you're covered.
Can I support the project without buying anything?

What macOS version do I need?
macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. Runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Does Battery Beggar drain my battery?
No. It reads the existing system battery state and idles in your menu bar. No background polling load, no network activity, no daemon. The whole point is to use less power, not more.
Does it send any data off my Mac?
No. Battery Beggar is fully local. No account, no analytics, no server. Nothing leaves your Mac. We genuinely do not know you exist.
How is this different from the built-in macOS battery indicator?
The built-in indicator is silent and easy to ignore. Battery Beggar reacts instead: the commentary escalates as you drain, in a personality you pick, so you notice the battery, plug in earlier, and waste less power. If you ever want a clean indicator, turn personality off and use it as a minimal menu bar battery readout.
Can it actually talk?
Yes. Turn on voice mode and your Mac reads the commentary out loud using any installed system voice. Voice mode is off by default.
